Success: A State of Mind or Something Else?

Let me ask you one question: How do you define success?

It’s a difficult question to ask and an even more challenging one to answer. If you ask everyone you know, you’ll find many responses. Some might try to give a clear answer, only to realize that their understanding of success has evolved over time.

For many, success may look different today than it did in the past. Success is a fluid concept and how we define it changes based on our life stage, experience, and atmospheric conditions.

Additionally, some people believe that the focus should be on the journey towards success, rather than the success itself. In essence, the concept of success is subjective.

One important thing to note is that success isn’t just about hard work and perseverance. It’s also about mindset. How you think and feel about yourself and your abilities can significantly impact your achievements.

In this post, we will explore the powerful connection between your state of mind and your success. Keep reading to discover how your thoughts shape your reality and get practical steps to build a mindset geared toward success.

What is Success?

Success means different things to different people. For some, it’s financial wealth; for others, it’s career advancement, personal fulfillment, or the achievement of personal goals.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines success as a “favorable or desired outcome” or “the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence”, while the Oxford Living Dictionary looks at success as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose” and “the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status” (Merriam-Webster; Oxford).

In reality, success is not definable or measurable which is why different sources will have come up with definitions of success.

What really matters is YOUR definition of success.

What success means for you is an important part of your identity. Figuring out what success means for you will make it hard for others to impose their vision of success on you. You’ll also gain a deeper sense of satisfaction when you achieve success on your terms.

Regardless of how you define success, one common thread is that it begins in the mind.

Your state of mind—your thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes—plays a crucial role in shaping your path to success.

How Success Affects You

No matter what its definition is, success significantly impacts your life. Achieving success gives you confidence, security, a sense of well-being, and the ability to contribute at a greater level. It offers hope and leadership. Without some form of success, whether personal or professional, it can be challenging to find motivation and satisfaction in life.

Your mindset can significantly impact your success. A success-oriented mindset can lead to increased motivation, better decision-making and resilience.

On the other hand, a negative mindset can lead to self-doubt, procrastination, and a fear of failure, all of which can hinder your progress.

I worked with a man who was successful by all common standards—a multi-millionaire, a top leader in his industry, and married with kids. Despite these achievements, he felt something was missing. He constantly felt pressure to perform at his best and was never satisfied with his results. After going through the TIPP program, he realized his negative mindset was deeply rooted in his subconscious, stemming from early childhood experiences. After the reboot and refresh of his mind, he freed up the energy that this negative mindset had been draining, allowing him to finally find true success—remaining calm, present, and content.

Does Happiness Equal Success?

Success and happiness are intertwined but they’re not the same.

It’s possible to be broke yet happy and successful because success is a matter of perspective. Or, as my client, “have it all” but constantly feel like you’re failing.

Success can be about maintaining a positive outlook and pride in your achievements, regardless of external conditions like wealth.

Here’s a quick way to define this:

  • Happiness: A state of well-being and contentment.
  • Success: The achievement of a goal or objective.

Happiness can boost your journey to success by keeping you motivated. However, true happiness comes from within and is not solely dependent on external achievements.

How to Lead a Successful Life

A lot of factors go into leading a successful life. As with success, what makes a successful life can be different for you and others. But some common threads are present, so if leading a successful life is one of your goals, here are a few things you can start focusing on to achieve a fulfilling life and reach your version of success.

  1. Purpose and Meaning: Having a purpose and meaning in life, whether through spiritual health or positive impact on others. Finding a purpose can guide your decisions and actions, giving you a sense of direction. It can also provide motivation during challenging times, helping you stay committed to your goals.
  2. Social Health: Maintaining positive relationships and interactions with friends and loved ones. Building strong social connections can provide emotional support and increase feelings of happiness. Regularly spending time with loved ones can also reduce stress and contribute to a sense of belonging.
  3. Emotional Health: Feeling good about oneself and having a positive self-image. Developing emotional health involves recognizing and managing your emotions effectively. This can lead to better coping strategies during difficult situations and contribute to overall mental well-being.
  4. Physical Health: Although not mandatory, being physically healthy can make life easier. Regular exercise and a balanced diet can enhance your energy levels and improve your mood. Physical health can also reduce the risk of chronic diseases, helping you stay active and engaged in life.
  5. Mental Fitness: Keeping the mind sharp through activities like reading and setting and achieving goals. Engaging in mentally stimulating activities can improve cognitive function and memory. Setting and achieving goals can provide a sense of accomplishment and encourage continuous personal growth.
  6. Material Wealth: For some, having a certain level of material wealth is part of their definition of success. Financial stability can provide security and freedom to pursue your interests and passions. It can also enable you to support others and contribute to causes you care about.

Balancing these aspects can help you achieve a holistic form of success that is fulfilling and sustainable. From here, you’ll find your own success metrics and zero in on what is it that makes you feel accomplished.

Achieve Peak Performance and Success

When you look at your own life, how successful do you feel? Maybe you’ve known success and are determined to reach the top, you put in the work, and spent years perfecting your skill, but you feel like something is still missing. Deep down you know you have untapped potential, and you’re always looking for another edge, however, you’re still not where you want to be.

Sometimes this causes anxiety, stress, and self-doubt, leading you to lose sleep or withdraw. It leaves you wondering, do you really have what it takes?

I’ve seen this exact challenge in professional athletes, top CEOs, Olympic medalists, and other high performers. However, there is nothing wrong with you—and there’s nothing wrong with your mind.

The reason you’re unable to reach your next level is that your mind has developed glitches and error messages in how it stores information about your past.

Your mind operates in the present and sees old events as if they’re happening now, constantly trying to fix them. This creates a never-ending loop running in your subconscious mind that interferes with your ability to stay present and perform at your highest level.

Just like multiple programs running in the background of your phone drain its battery, unresolved issues looping in your subconscious mind are draining you, too.

They limit your ability to focus and stay in the moment and deeply inhibit your performance.

All you need is a reset, and that’s exactly what we do with our patented TIPP program.
